On the centennial of the October Revolution, on 25 October 2017, the bestselling author Boris Akunin, at the request of RaamopRusland, held the first October Lecture 'Illusions of change' in debating center De Rode Hoed in Amsterdam.
The lecture sheds new light on Russian history from the perspective of the almight of the state, that despite revolutons and upheavals, always reasserts its might. According to Akunin this originates from the reign of Ivan III and the Tataro-Mongol yoke with its extreme centralisation, sacral leadership, disinterest in the individual and lack of civil society.
